Title:  SLSF 725
Description:  HOLDENVILLE OK July 10 1978 -- Frisco GP35 725 has cut off from its train and moved south of the Rock Island crossing. The locos stopped at this location to meet a Holdenville Fire Department grass fire rig and fire department personnel so a Frisco crewman can use water from a handy fire hydrant. EMD built the 725 in April 1965. After the merger with BN it became BN 2575. It was retired in July 1985. (Roster information from www.trainpix.com)

Description:  ENID OK Aug 4 1978 -- Rock Island GP38-2 4321 (Texas), U28B 263, GP38-2 4348 (Tom Foster) and GP35 330 haul a mixed freight past a freshly plowed field south of Enid. EMD built the 4321 (b/n 757136-7) in October 1976. After Rock Island's bankruptcy and shutdown the unit was leased by Missouri Pacific in mid-1980 as MP 2259. On Aug 8 1990 the lease transferred to Union Pacific and it became UP 2259. On Dec 15 2000 was renumbered UP 759. After being retired on July 27 2007 it went to GATX Rail Locomotive Group as GMTX 2131. Description:  WAUKOMIS OK Aug 4 1978 -- Rock Island GP7R 4507 leads a mixed freight south as it approaches the E0500 Road crossing on the Rocks north-south main line. EMD built the unit in September 1952 as GP7 1271 (s/n 17602). After the Rocks collapse the 4507 went to the Chicago and Northwestern as CNW 4161. It was retired by the Union Pacific on Oct 7 1996. It was sold to Helm financial and then sold to Hoosier Southern Railroad as HOS 406. Description:  MOORE OK August 7 1978 -- It isn't a steam engine but it still portrays a classic smoking wedge. Santa Fe B23-7 6363 leads a light engine movement and the smoke show is mainly courtesy of the three General Electric products in the lead. General Electric built the 6363 (s/n 41686) in mid-1978 and delivered it in yellow warbonnet. On Sept 22 1995 it was transferred to BNSF. On Feb 23 2000 it was patched and renumbered BNSF 4220. It was up for auction to the highest bidder on July 19 2007. According to Fred Harrison on Loconotes it was on a train departing Galesburg IL on Oct 12 2007 headed for National Railway Equipment at Silvis IL. Description:  MOORE OK September 3 1978 -- Santa Fe first in class GP20 3100, GP38 3543, GP20 3135 and U23B 6306 head south with train 365. EMD built the lead unit as ATSF 1100 (s/n 25573 and delivered it in blue with yellow ends and trim. It was numbered ATSF 3100 in the 1969-70 general renumbering. It was repainted blue with yellow warbonnet after mid-June 1972. In November 1980 the San Bernardino CA shops rebuilt it as a GP20u and renumbered it 3000. On September 22 1995 it was patched BNSF and renumbered 2002. After being retired it was sold to Pioneer Rail Equipment and became PREX 3000. It has since been renumbered PREX 2053 and Joe Hill photographed it on April 11 2012 in black with yellow trim. Description:  EDMOND OK Sept 4 1978 -- Santa Fe CF7 2472 has charge of Work Train 1. EMD built the unit as F7A 238L (s/n 9599in April 1950 and delivered it in blue with cream yellow trim. On Dec 31 1976 the Cleburne TX shops rebuilt it as a CF7 with a round roof and renumbered it ATSF 2472. It was acquired by General Electric in December 1984, sold to the Blue Mountain and Reading RR and renumbered BMRG 2472 in March 1985. After being sold to National Railway Equipment Co it was sold to IMC Fertilizer and renumbered IMC 204. Description:  GUTHRIE OK Sept 4 1978 -- Santa Fe GP7 2795 is tied up at the station awaiting switching work. EMD built the 2795 (s/n 17450) in October 1952 and delivered it in zebra stripe paint. At an unknown date it was repainted yellow warbonnet. In January 1981 the Cleburne TX shops rebuilt it as a chop-nose GP7u with an angled Topeka cab and it was renumbered ATSF 2221. It was transferred to the BNSF on Sept 22 1995. In January 2000 it was patched and renumbered BNSF 1365. In October 2005 it was rebuilt as a Radio Controlled Locomotive Platform and renumbered 290. Description:  GUTHRIE OK March 26 1979 -- Santa Fe CF7 2455 handles switching duties in this one-time capital of Oklahoma. The crew has tied it up just south of the station. EMD built this unit (s/n 13787) in May 1951 as F7A 252L and delivered it in blue with cream and vermillion trim paint. On June 7 1977 the Cleburne TX shops rebuilt it as a CF7 in blue with yellow warbonnet and renumbered it 2455. It was retired in early 1982, sold to Southwestern Rail Car Parts in January 1983 and scrapped. Description:  HEMAN OK June 18 1979 -- Santa Fe SD45 5605 heads west with train 138. EMD built the 5605 as a Locotrol master (s/n 35010) in May 1969 and delivered it in blue with yellow ends and trim. It was repainted into yellow warbonnet after Aug 26 1972. It became the second unit to be painted in the proposed Southern Pacific-Santa Fe merger scheme in the first week of September 1985 when it was released from the San Bernardino shops as SPSF 5401. It was returned to yellow warbonnet before Jan 1 1991 with the failure of the merger, was retired in April 1995 but transferred to BNSF on Sept 22 1995 after the merger. It was patched BNSF and renumbered 6412 on Sept 19 1999 and was retired in April 1995. It was acquired by National Railway Equipment Co and became NREX 6412. It became ATSF 7211 in late 1988 to early 1989 when it was rebuilt at the San Bernardino shops but regained its ATSF 6377 number in September 1989. Description:  ANADARKO OK June 27 1979 -- The crew of this lashup with Rock Island 4543 in front has tied down the engines and gone to lunch. EMD built the unit (s/n 17615) as CRIP 1284 in December 1952. After being rebuilt as a GP7r on Oct 27 1976 it was renumbered CRIP 4543. It was acquired by Chicago & North Western on June 17 1981 and was renumbered CNW 4197. It was retired on Feb 21 1997 and sold for scrap to Larrys Truck and Electric and arrived there on April 7 1998. Description:  ARDMORE OK July 25 1979 -- Santa Fe GP9u 2250 and GP30u 3276 split the intermediate signals on the south side of Ardmore as they power the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus train on its journey from Oklahoma City to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. EMD built the 2250 as ATSF 702 (s/n 21572) in May 1956 and delivered it in zebra stripe paint. In late 1969-early 1970 it was renumbered to ATSF 2902. After mid-June 1972 it was repainted to blue-yellow warbonnet. On April 25 1978 the Cleburne TX shops rebuilt it as a GP9u and renumbered it to ATSF 2250. After a stint in SPSF paint it regained blue-yellow warbonnet before Jan 1 1991 after the proposed SP-ATSF merger was rejected. On Sept 22 1995 it was transferred to BNSF and on June 4 1998 was rebuilt and renumbered to BNSF 1639 but still wore its warbonnet paint. On March 23 2010 Mark Herren shot the unit in Spalding ID on the Bountiful Grain and Craig Mountain Railroad. It was painted BG&CM orange and black. Description:  PONCA CITY OK PONCA CITY OK August 1981 -- ATSF GP20u 3033 handles switching duties in this north-central city. A large customer is the ConocoPhillips oil refinery but this photo highlights the grain business. The Robin Hood Flour site was closed in 1959. EMD built the 3033 (s/n 26839) in September 1961 as ATSF 1133 in blue with yellow ends. It became ATSF 3133 in the 1969-70 general renumbering and was repainted into yellow warbonnet after mid-June 1972. The San Bernardino shops rebuilt it as a GP20u and renumbered 3033 January 1977. After creation of BNSF it was patched and renumbered BNSF 2023. It was acquired by Filmore Western as FWRY 3033 and acquired by Nebraska Northeastern Railway as NENE 3033. Description:  Pauls Valley OK April 1981 -- This undated photo shows Santa Fe GP38 3501 as it awaits its crew for switching duties in this south-central Oklahoma community. At one time an alternate north-south Santa Fe line from Newkirk in the north through Cushing, Shawnee, Tecumseh, and Byars rejoining the Oklahoma City main line in Pauls Valley. EMD built the 3501 in June 1970. In April 1985 Santa Fe rebuilt it as GP38u 2301. When Santa Fe and Burlington Northern merged it became BNSF 2190 (Feb 9 1980). Description:  WYNNEWOOD OK April 1981 -- This undated photo shows Santa Fe U36C 8733 in the hole south of the station. GE built the unit in April 1973. The Cleburne shops rebuilt it as an SF30c ATSF 9503 in October 1985. After retirement it was sold to National Railway Equipment on August 9 1995. Before Jan 6 1996 it was sold to Metropolitan Stevedore Co as MSTV 9503. It then went to Brazil and became MRS 3730 where it went into service in November 2003 with MRS Logistica S.A. which operates the Southeastern Federal Railroad Network. Description:  CHICKASHA OK March 26 1982 -- North Central Oklahoma Railroad RS36 2873 sits in front of the former Rock Island station. Note the semaphore train order signal at top right. The NCO existed from 1982 to 1985 and is now the Austin, Todd & Ladd Railroad but the AT&L does not roster this unit. Web site http://www.fl9.com/ reports, “Prior to arriving in Oklahoma, this 1800-hosepower unit was one of only forty of this model built by ALCO, and served as the Norfolk & Western 2873 after starting its life as the Nickel Plate 873.” According to http://www.trainweb.org/jaydeet/rs32_36.htm ALCO built the NKP 873 in July 1962.

Description:  OKARCHE OK Jan 17 1983 -- Katy 3109 and GP40 171 are switching cars at a bulk loading facility. This was the Rock Islands north-south line which Katy took over and operated a the Missouri Kansas Texas. EMD built the 3109 (s/n 34286) For Penn Central as PC 3109 in August 1968 and later became Conrail 3109. Katy acquired it after the Conrail lease expired and renumbered it MKT 235. This photo shows the unit patched for MKT but not yet renumbered. When Union Pacific took over it became UP 670 on May 19 1990 and was to be renumbered UP 9953 to free up the number for a GP38-2. UP retired the 670 on April 18 2000. It was photographed by Brandon Warnick in Paducah KY on Oct 1 2011 and was reported by Mark Gillings as en route to Progress Rail in Tacoma WA on March 24 2012. At the date of this photo Katy operated the line as the Oklahoma Kansas Texas. EMD built the 210 (s/n 34093) in August 1968in 1968. It was retired as MKT 210 and sold to Phoenix Railway Corp (Spokane WA) in February 1992 but the sale was rescinded. It was sold to Pielet Brothers Scrap Iron and Metal (McCook IL) on March 27 1992. The San Bernardino shops rebuilt it as an SD40-2u in April 1991 and it underwent maintenance at Morrison Knudsen in April 1984. After the BNSF merger it was patched and renumbered 6756. The light is questionable but I had to shoot Western Pacific paint in Oklahoma. EMD built the 3517 (s/n 36824) on August 21 1970. After acquisition by Union Pacific it was to be renumbered UP 666 but on August 31 1985 it was retired and returned to owner-lessor Helm Financial Corp and was leased to Soo line. In April 1987 it became Chicago Missouri and Western 3517 and in July 1987 was renumbered CMNW 3000.
