Description:  HUTCHINSON KS May 1981 -- Hutchinson & Northern S1 No. 4 awaits work. Myself and a fellow railfan spent night driving from Norman OK to Hutchinson just to photograph this unit. We stopped at numerous train locations and finally arrived shortly before sunrise. A few hours later we got this shot. I also shot it in Panatomic X but those negatives are still lost somewhere in the move to Washingtpm state. Title:  ATSF 129
Description:  ARGENTINE KS May 2 1982 -- Santa Fe slug 129 (shown here at the Argentine shops and in what appears to be fresh paint) was built by EMD in July 1959 as UP SD24B 420B. In October 1979 it was rebuilt to the Santa Fe 129. It was repainted to SPSF sometime between August 1985 and July 1986. It was renumbered to ATSF 1129 in Mid 1989 and eventually returned to Santa Fe paint. On Oct 12 1998 it Became BNSF 3970. (Roster data from atsfrr.net)

Description:  WELLINGTON KS May 2 1982 -- Santa Fe SD45u 5304 leaves the Wellington grain elevators in the distance as it traverses south-central Kansas on the transcon. This locomotive was built by EMD in December 1966 as no. 1865. It was renumbered to 5565 in 1970. It was rebuilt in July 1981 and renumbered to 5304. Santa Fe retired the unit in February 1993. Description:  WICHITA KS March 17 1983 -- Retired Burlington Northern NW2 421 poses for a nighttime roster shot. EMD built the unit as Frisco 261 in May 1949. When Frisco merged with BN it gained the number 421 and spent most of its life in Wichita. It is on display at the Great Plains Transportation Museum in Wichita. Title:  DRGW 3137
Description:  KANSAS CITY KS Jan 9 1985 -- Rio Grande GP40 3137 awaits a call to return to home rails in Colorado. Merger of the UP and MOP gave the Grande access to Kansas City over the MOP line from Pueblo. This line is now largely abandoned. This unit has a checkered past. According to drgw.net it was built as Penn Central 3125 in August 1968. It became Conrail 3125, then became DRGW 3177 on Nov 3, 1983, and finally became DRGW 3137 on Feb. 24, 1984. Web site utahrails.net indicates the 3137 was retired by SP along with nine other Grande GP40s prior to the merger.
