Description:  BINGEN WA Sept 27 1978 -- Burlington Northern GP35 2511 leads a mixed freight west on the Fallbridge Sub. EMD built the unit (b/n 30116) for the Great Northern in the simplified Empire Builder scheme as GN 3028 in April 1965. It became BN 2511 in 1970, was retired December 24 1989 and was remanufactured by Electro-Motive as GP39E BN 2906 on June 18 1990 and later became BNSF 2906 in whiteface paint scheme. It became BN 4197 August 18 1980 after the merger. It was retired in August 1980 and sold to Chrome Crankshaft Sept 8 1980 and then to Dow Chimical as DOWX 1005 (Ft Saskatchewan AB) in July 1987. Description:  VANCOUVER WA Oct 2 1978 -- Retired and unserviceable Burlington Northern RS3 BN 4028 basks in the sun and awaits its fate at the engine facility. Alco delivered the unit as Northern Pacific 858 in 1955 with builder‚Äôs number 81155. In March 1970, with the creation of Burlington Northern, it became BN 4082. It was retired in August 1978. Ot was involved in a grade crossing accident while still in NP paint. It was repainted to BN colors but a court ordered the accident be re-created so it was painted back into Northern Pacific colors. It was sold on Aug 1 1978 to Joseph Simon and Sons, Tacoma WA, and scrapped. (Roster information from research.nphra.org and locophotos.com)

Description:  VANCOUVER WA Oct 2 1978 -- Columbia Industrial Park 80-ton Whitcomb 101 (built in July 1944) awaits switching duties as Burlington Northern cabooses roll east in the background. It started life at the Navy Ammunition Depot (McAlester OK). It then went through several transactions. In September 1947 it served with Weyerhaeuser (Longview WA) as 112 and later 304. It was then sold to Longview Fibre Company (Longview WA) as 7011. In March 1966 it was sold to dealer D.C. Southland, sold to Vinnell Construction Company (Starbuck WA), sold to Lampson Railroad Contractors (Pasco WA) and finally acquired in 1973 by Columbia Industrial Park as 101. The company changed its name to Columbia Business center and I saw the locomotive being scrapped on a delivery track at the business center around 2010. Dummy that I am I didn‚Äôt get a photo of the scrapping and don‚Äôt remember the actual date. DUH!

Description:  VANCOUVER WA Oct 2 1978 -- Port of Vancouver POVX 615 awaits a crew and the days work. It is tied down at the east end of Great Western Malting Company. The following is from trainweb.org: Built by Skagit Steel & Iron Works, Sedro Wooley, WA (c/n 101, 11/38 or 3/39) for the Skagit River Ry. as their # 7. Converted from Portland Traction electric locomotive #1403, however only the truck frames and axles (not traction motors?) were used. Originally powered by a pair of Waukesha 6-WAKH-4 200hp diesels, later repowered with Caterpillar D-17000's. Sold 5/27/54 to dealer M. Bloch & Co. (Seattle, WA). Resold to Port of Vancouver, re# 2, later re# 615. Sold to a private party in Portland, OR. Scrapped in 1990's? A BIG thank you to Chuck Zeiller for the information from train web!

Description:  VANCOUVER WA Dec 16 2008 -- Columbia Business Center CBCX 102 is tied down on a delivery track south of the Western Steel fabrication facility. The area is what used to be a Kaiser Shipyard. GE built the unit (b/n 32413) in February 1956 for The Pacific Lumber Co. (Scotia CA) as TPL 102. The unit was stored after the line shut down in 1977. Dick Samuels (dealer) purchased the unit in late 1994 and he sold it to the business center. It is now stored awaiting its fate. (Roster information from trainweb.org/westernrails)

Description:  VANCOUVER WA July 6 2009 -- CBCX SSB 1200 565 is tied down at the old Kaiser Shipyard which is now an industrial center. The 565 is operated by Columbia Business Center and interchanges with BNSF. The unit began life as EMC NW 2350 (order E173, serial 725) in September 1937. It was later renumbered 2400. EMD rebuilt the unit (order no. 7573. builder no. 25224) in June 1959 as SW1200 2439 and delivered it to Santa Fe in zebra stripe paint. After being retired Nov 28 1973 Santa Fe’s San Bernardino shops rebuilt into an SSB1200, renumbered 1239 and painted it Santa Fe blue with yellow warbonnet on Feb 8 1974. It was retired a second time by Santa Fe and made its way to Amtrak as AMTK 565 in black and silver on Aug 31 1984. From there in found its way to Columbia Business Center as CBCX 565 still in black and silver. Sometime in I believe 2010 it was repainted Orange and Black. (Lessor) and Kinder Morgan Bulk Terminals Inc. (Lessee) dated June 1, 2000. Locomotive No. 7513 (GP-10). Picture: PT 7513." This information from Chuck bolsters my idea that it is used to shuttlle cars for unloading at the Port of Vancouvers Terminal 2 Berth 7: Dry Bulk Export Dock. A big thanks for Chuck for his help.

The elevated BNSF mains are in the background. The 565 is operated by Columbia Business Center and interchanges with BNSF. After being retired Nov 28 1973 Santa Fe’s San Bernardino shops rebuilt into an SSB1200, renumbered 1239 and painted it Santa Fe blue with yellow warbonnet on Feb 8 1974. It was retired a second time by Santa Fe and made its way to Amtrak as AMTK 565 in black and silver on Aug 31 1984. From there in found its way to Columbia Business Center as CBCX 565 still in black and silver. It was repainted orange and black in lated 2009 or early 2010. This is the interchange track with the Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad in Vancouver WA. EMD built the 2905 (s/n 786224-2) in May-June 1979 for Santa Fe as ATSF 3684 and delivered it in yellow warbonnet. On Sept 22 1995 it was transferred to BNSF.
