ATSF 5394, RE-SCAN
Title:  ATSF 5394, RE-SCAN
Description:  DAVIS OK Aug 23 1985 -- ATSF SD45u 5394 was the first Santa Fe unit to be painted in the proposed SPSF paint scheme. It was painted in this experimental scheme with white lettering instead of yellow, four stripes in the cigar band instead of three and a lower level of black for the roofline. The white letters were later changed to yellow. Fellow railfan Greg Hall and I saw the unit rolling westbound (compass south) through Norman OK but we were unable to photograph it. It was the first Kodachrome unit either of us had seen so the chase was on. We paced it south to Davis before we got far enough ahead to try for a shot. I took the street heading south just east of the crossing and floored my Suburban. We actually went airborne once but managed to stop and get a few shots in the rapidly fading light. I had to pan the image but it is still somewhat blurry. (Roster information from http://atsf.railfan.net/sfkodcrm/i5394.htm)

ATSF 5394
Title:  ATSF 5394
Description:  AMARILLO TX July 6 1986 -- Santa Fe SD45u 5394 leads seven other locomotives westbound on the south side of Amarillo. The unit was built by EMD as ATSF 5597 (s/n 35002) in April 1969 and delivered it as a Locotrol master in blue with yellow ends and no rear footboards. It was rebuilt in August 1985 as an SD45u at the San Bernardino CA shops. It was renumbered to 5394 and became the first unit to wear the SPSF colors. It had a white SF on the long hood sides which was later changed to yellow. Before Jan 1 1991 it was painted back to yellow warbonnet. In August 1994 it was retired and sold to Wisconsin Central Railway as WC 6624 and in 1995 was repainted into WC colors. Canadian National acquired it Oct 9 2001, retired it on Nov 1 2001 and it went to Hilliard Enterprises on July 11 2002. It has been reported to have been scrapped.
