Description:  RENFROW OK Oct 1977 -- The last picture of a long day chasing trains yeilded this hight shot of Rock Island 353. We used two Braun RL915 strobes but had only one tripod. My camera was upside down on a handy screw mount.

CRIP 355
Title:  CRIP 355
Description:  OKLAHOMA CITY OK October 1975 -- In this undated photo Rock Island GP40 355 makes its way through Harter Yard while a switcher works a cut of cars. EMD built the 355 in September 1966. On April 13 1980, upon the Rock Island shutdown, it gained the number UP 615 but did not receive UP paint until May 8 1989. On April 25 1985 it became Missouri Pacific 615. It was retired Aug 10 1987. On Oct 28 1987 it was sold to Morrison Knudsen, rebuilt as a GP40FH-2. M-K completed it Sept 1 1988 and it went Metro North Commuter Rail as MNCR 4187. Description:  EL RENO OK Jan 2 1978 -- Rock Island GP40 357 was built by EMD Sept-Oct 1966. It was sold to Precision National, Mount Vernon IL,in July 1985 and scrapped by Gray Supply, North Little Rock AR. (Roster information from thedieselshop.us and utahrails.net)

CRIP 384
Title:  CRIP 384
Description:  OKLAHOMA CITY OK October 1975 -- Vandals broke a switch lock, through the switch and tampered with the switch signal to show the wrong aspect. The result was that Rock Island 384 left the main track and came to rest at the end of this warehouse spur. The train was westbound on the westside of the city. I don’t recall if anyone was injured in this incident. EMD built the unit January 1969. In 1981 New Jersey Transit acquired it as NJTR 4138. In December 1987 Morrison-Knudsen rebuilt it into a GP40FH-2. Included in the rebuild was a cowl hood from F45 BN 6639. Description:  KANSAS CITY KS Sept 29 1979 -- Rock Island GP40 387 rests in Armourdale Yard only months from total shut down of the road. This unit eventually ended up on the Union Pacific.

CRIP 4712  in the weeds
Title:  CRIP 4712 in the weeds
Description:  EL RENO OK Jan 5 1976 -- Rock Island GP40 4712 leads a mixed freight leaving the yard eastbound. EMD built the 4712 (b/n 36398) ub April 1970. After the Rock shut down Union Pacific acquired it on April 1 1980. It became UP 643 but retained its Rock paint. On April 29 1980 it was painted in UP colors. It was leased by NdeM from October 1989 to June 1990, was stored unserviceable at Fort Worth, retired on Aug 21 1991, sold to National Railway Equipment (Dixmoor IL) on Oct 9 1991 and in September 1994 acquired by Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern as DME 4002 in Blue with yellow stripe and later in 20th Anniversary Commemorative paint.
