NEWMAN KS Sept 26 1979 -- UP SD40 3104 handles a mixed freight. According to utahrails.net it was built in September 1971 and retired Jan 30 1989. It was then “sold to Wilson Railway Co., Des Moines, Iowa, 6 June 1989, reconditioned and sold to PLM 3104 in August 1989, held at Wilson until mid 1990; rebuilt to SD40-2 by Morrison Knudsen, Mountaintop, Pa., completed as PLM 3104 on 31 August 1990; sold to Morrison Knudsen in April 1993; rebuilt to SD40M-2 by Morrison Knudsen, Boise, Idaho, completed as Morrison Knudsen (MKCX) 9053 on 4 February 1994; sold to Helm Leasing (HLCX) 6300, 26 August 1996; leased to Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana, in service as TFM 1511; returned to Helm, in national lease service as HLCX 6300.” |

CLOVIS NM Dec 26 1975 -- Santa Fe SD40 5019 leads a mixed freight into the west end of the Clovis Yard. EMD built the unit as ATSF 1719 in April 1966. During the 1969-70 general renumbering it became ATSF 5019. In July 1981 it was rebuilt as an SD40u and on May 11 1998 it was relettered and renumbered to BNSF 6317. |
