According to atsfrr.net this unit was built by General Electric in July 1972. It was rebuilt to U36Cu/SF30C 9502 in September 1985. It was retired in August 1995 and went to National Railway Equipment Co. |

PURCELL OK October 1975 -- Two trains await crews to continue their journey. Santa Fe U36Cs 8726, 8735 and GP39-2 3604 lead a southbound covered hopper train. Beside them U23B 6341 is on the point of another southbound train. GE built the 8726 (s/n 38888) in March 1973 and delivered it in yellow warbonnet. In November 1985 the Cleburne TX shops rebuilt it as a Locotrol master SF30C, painted it into SPSF red-yellow and renumbered it 9530. Sometime before Jan 1 1991 it was painted back to yellow warbonnet. It was retired sometime in July or August 1995 and sold to National Railway Equipment on Aug 9 1995. The mixed freight is eastbound (compass north) and running at the timetable dictated 45 mph. GE built the 8729 in March 1973. It was rebuilt as an SF30C and renumbered ATSF 9508 in November 1985. It was retired sometime before Sept 1997 and sold to Livingston Rebuild center where it became LRCX 9508. It eventually ended up in Sao Paulo Brazil as Ferrovia Centro Atlantica 4710. PARMERTON TX May 26 1980 -- Santa FE U36C 8731, SD40 5015 and U36C 8728 have a westbound mixed freight in tow as the U boats put on a smoke show. GE built the 8731 (s/n 38893) in March 1973. It was rebuilt as an SF30C Locotrol receiver at the Cleburne TX shops, painted in SPSF colors and renumbered to ATSF 9531. After the ATSF-SP merger failed it was repainted to yellow warnonnte before Jan 1 1991 and retained its 9531 number. In July-August 1995 it was retired and sold to National Railway Equipment Co on Aug 9 1995. By December 2033 it was in Brazil operating for MRS Logistica S.A. on the Southeastearn (sic) Federal Railroad Network as MRS 3733. The Cleburne shops rebuilt it as an SF30c ATSF 9503 in October 1985. After retirement it was sold to National Railway Equipment on August 9 1995. Before Jan 6 1996 it was sold to Metropolitan Stevedore Co as MSTV 9503. It then went to Brazil and became MRS 3730 where it went into service in November 2003 with MRS Logistica S.A. which operates the Southeastern Federal Railroad Network. The train is traveling west on Frisco tracks to Avard OK where it will move onto the Santa Fes Transcon to continue its journey to Los Angeles. GE built the 8777 in December 1974. In June 1986 it was rebuilt as an SF30C in the Cleburne TX shops, renumbered 9549 and painted into SPSF colors. After the SP-SF merger failed it was returned to Santa Fe paint sometime before Jan 1 1991. It was laid up pending disposition in Topeka KS, retired and sold to Livingston Rebuild Center Inc on Aug 6 1997 where it became LRCX 9549.
