Information from atsfrr.net indicates unit 5003 was built by EMD in April 1966 and rebuilt as an SD40u in January 1981. it became BNSF 6304 on August 25, 1998. NOTE -- Date of slide is approximate and based on slide mount date. |

BELEN NM Sept 10 1983 -- Santa Fe SD40u 5010 sits next to what is left of the roundhouse. EMD built the unit as SD40 1710 in April 1966. It was renumbered to 5010 in 1970. It was rebuilt to an SD40u in December 1981 and was renumbered and relettered to BNSF 6310 on Jan 10 2000. HEREFORD TX Oct 8 1988 -- Santa Fe SD40u 5017 hauls a TOFC train westbound on the north end of town. EMD built the 5017 as ATSF 1717 (s/n 32053) and delivered it blue with yellow ends. In became ATSF 5017 during the 1969-1970 general renumbering and was repainted to yellow warbonnet. In December 1980 the San Bernardino CA shops rebuilt it into an SD40u. It was transferred to BNSF on Sept 22 1995. On Oct 3 1998 it was patched and renumbered 6315.
