PAULS VALLEY OK March 9 1976 -- Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation 4449 steps out with the American Ffeedom train in tow. This shot is actually taken north of Pauls Valley on U.S. 77 where the highway paralells the tracks for several miles. A great subject and a great spot for pacing. Upon comparing the two scans of this train I see this one has a Santa Fe Bicentennial unit while the earlier in the day shot does not have the diesel. My memory is firm on the locations but I might be wrong on the exact date. I do not remember the diesel being addes. Anyone out there have input on the date or the diesel? |

Description: |
GAINESVILLE TX March 9 1976 -- The location is south of Gainesville on the way to Oklahoma. The Freedom Train departed Fort Worth in early morning cloudy weather. This photo shows 4449 alone pulling the Freedom Train. Another photo I took the same day near Pauls Valley shows a Santa Fe Bicentennial unit in the consist. I would like to know if my dating of this photo is accurate and what the story of the diesel being added is. Any takers? |
